Society of Mary
Queen of All The Saints (Bournemouth) Ward
The Society of Mary
The Society of Mary was founded in 1931, upon the uniting of two similar societies founded in 1880 and 1901 respectively. This year: 2006 The Society celebrates its 75th anniversary with special events, especially a service at S. Alban’s Holborn, London, on Sunday 10th September when the Preacher will be the Archbishop of Canterbury.
The Society is dedicated to the glory of God and in honour of the Holy Incarnation under the invocation of Our Lady, Help of Christians. Members are requested to keep a simple Rule of Life and to take part in the Mass on the principal Feasts of Our Lady.
The Society of Mary in Bournemouth
There have been Members of The Society at S. Stephen’s for over 60-years and for the majority of this time The Local Ward under the title of: ‘Queen of All Saints’ has been based here. Each Ward has its own Ward Superior and indeed one of The Clergy of S. Stephen’s has held this position for the past 40-years. The current Ward Superior is Fr. David Maddox.
A Mass is held monthly and usually observes a Marion Feast. In Lent an Annual Quiet Day is held on a Saturday from 10a.m. until 3.30p.m., and on a Saturday in May (The Month of Mary) a local May Devotion is held with a Mass, Lunch, Procession of Our Lady, and Benediction.
During 4 days in June, an annual Pilgrimage to the National Shrine of Our Lady at Walsingham is arranged.
In the early autumn a day’s outing is offered. In 2005 we visited The Shrine of Our Lady of Consolation, West Grinstead and in 2006 we visited the Brighton Pavilion and Lancing College.
